Prevenar 13®▼(Pneumococcal polysaccharide conjugate vaccine (13-valent, adsorbed)) Pfizer are proud to announce that Prevenar 13® has recently received an expanded licence for adults aged 50 years and older. Prevenar was introduced into the UK childhood immunisation schedule in 2006, and was replaced by Prevenar 13 in 2010 which provides the broadest coverage against pneumococcal disease in infants and children 6 weeks to 5 years of age. Since the introduction of Prevenar/Prevenar 13 into the UK childhood immunisation schedule there has been a 56% decline in the number of cases of invasive pneumococcal disease in infants under two, and a reduction of around 2,800 hospital admissions in children under five in England and Wales. As of October 2011, Prevenar 13 is now indicated for the active immunisation of adults 50 years of age and older for the prevention of invasive pneumococcal disease caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae. Prevenar 13 is the first and only pneumococcal conjugate vaccine licensed for adults 50 years and older. Click here to view the full product licensing information for Prevenar 13
