The World Health Organisation refers to immunisation against infectious diseases as one of the most successful and cost-effective health interventions ever. A very important part of Pfizer’s product range is the portfolio of vaccines to protect people against some of the most common – and potentially most dangerous – infections that they may encounter in the course of their lives.
We produce or distribute vaccines to immunise babies, children and adults against some of the most common and potentially dangerous infections in the UK:
These diseases have been known to cause widespread morbidity and mortality among the population of the United Kingdom.
The Department of Health has recognised that immunisation is one of the most important tools for protecting individuals and the community from serious diseases.
Pneumococcal disease
Prevenar (Pneumococcal polysaccharide conjugate vaccine (7 valent, adsorbed)), was the world's first licensed conjugate vaccine against pneumococcal disease and became part of the UK routine childhood immunisation programme in September 2006.
Prevenar 13® suspension for injection (Pneumococcal polysaccharide conjugate vaccine (13 valent, adsorbed)), a conjugate vaccine, which offers the broadest coverage against pneumococcal disease, replaced Prevenar in 2010.
Prevenar 13 was approved for use in Europe in December 2009 and became part of the UK's routine childhood immunisation programme in Spring 2010.
